BORROWASH VICS 0-1 DUNKIRK: 2009-10...

Scavengers

Like gulls retreating, flocking
To their sanctuary:
A movement,
A concentration
Of similar broods;
One mind, moving to roost,
The youths spewed
Into the grandstand.

Like hyenas chuckling, mocking
In their safety:
A statement,
A damnation
Of similar moods;
No thought, moving to roost,
The youths aped
A disagreeable brand.

Like scavengers advancing, incensing
To their prey:
A decision,
An indignation
Of similar hoods;
One anger, moving to roost,
The youths berated
With threatening hand…

Borrowash, off the A52, where a bunch of youths who simply didn’t fit in, massed in a corner of the grandstand and, to the accompaniment of a drum, chanted all the way through the game. They ran as one towards the surrounding fence when the referee failed to award their team a penalty, then sprinted behind a goal-frame to put off Westcarr, Dunkirk’s penalty-taker successfully, for 'keeper Kennerson saved well.  Finally, they massed behind Dunkirk’s goal late in the game in an attempt to affect the young visiting ‘keeper’s confidence.
