BRINKLOW MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES REPORTS ON HIS TEAM'S FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON: A 1-3 WIN AT FOLLY LANE, THE CURRENT LEAGUE CHAMPIONS...

Edwin sets a fine example to his team...

"This game was a massive one for the players and me on the back of our previous three defeats. Going into the Champions' back yard and with their impressive home record, coming away with anything was never going to be easy.

Folly Lane started the game well but we soon found ourselves in front after 3 minutes: a Fordy pass put Jordan through one-on-one and he unselfishly squared the ball for Macca to score the opening goal.

The goal settled us down and we started to play the type of football that we have been threatening to do all season but have failed to deliver over 90 minutes.

We doubled our lead in the 22nd minute when Scott's pass found Macca, who linked up well with Blake who finished in style.

We created other good opportunities but the final ball into the box didn't have the quality needed and that was disappointing for me. At this stage Folly Lane looked like the true Champions they are; they were shocked into action and controlled the last part of the half. They started to boss the midfield area and began to find time on the ball which wasn't around earlier in the game.

Folly Lane's best chance to get into the game was foiled by a top class save from Liam, who somehow managed to get his fingers to a shot which hit the crossbar and cannoned out to safety.

An injury to Huey forced a substitution and he was replaced by Craig on 45 minutes and we went into the break 2-0 up.

The 2nd half started as I expected, with Folly Lane on the front foot and trying to get back into the game. Unfortunately for us, it was sooner than I would have liked, with a classy shot on 48 minutes from approximately 25 yards out, which gave Liam no chance in goals and the score was suddenly 2-1.

The players responded in fine style however and restored our two-goal advantage in the 58th minute when Ben threaded a pass to Macca who again linked up well with Blake. Blake still had a lot to do, but again finished in style: 3-1.

The game then took a turn for the worse in the 68th minute when both sides were reduced to 10 men. (Blake got sent off for us...)

Connor replaced Ben on 73 minutes to give us some fresh legs in midfield before Folly Lane went down to 9 men on 75 minutes for 2 yellow cards, as their forward hand-balled the ball over the goal-line.

Both sides had opportunities to score late on, as spaces appeared all over the pitch but neither side took advantage.

The game finished with another red card in stoppage time for Folly Lane when a player kicked out at Connor after the ball had gone and it was spotted by the referee.

In summing up this game, over 90 minutes this was our best performance of the season to date.

The mistakes that have appeared in our previous games disappeared as the lads kept their concentration for the whole game and listened to instructions. We still need to improve in areas of our game and as I have said before, we are a work in progress.

Positives tonight were the players who stepped in for their 1st games for Brinklow: Liam, Mario and Danny Mac.

Ellis. who captained the side, was a rock at the back and led the lads well but the biggest positive on the night for me was Jordan. This lad has loads of ability and if he continues to listen and learn he will have a massive future.

He knows his game still needs to improve but he has time on his side.

I would like to wish Ross and all at Folly Lane all the best for the remainder of the season.

Now we move on and start to think about our next game..."
