BRINKLOW FC MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES WRITES ABOT HIS TEAM'S 1-0 LOSS AT COVENTRY COLLIERY...

EDWIN REVEALS HIS NEW SIGNING, WHO HAS BEEN RECRUITED TO RUN HIMSELF INTO THE GROUND...

"A Happy New Year To You All!

We could not have got this game off to a worse start when we conceded a penalty after 2 minutes. Dylan Campbell-Coker, doing a job for me at centre-back today made a rash challenge in the box and left the referee with no choice but to award a penalty. Jason Fox was given no chance: 1-0.

Cov Colliery almost went further ahead when a shot hit a post. We had a couple of good opportunities from Hosein Khorami and Blake Kassar which were saved by the Colliery goalkeeper.

Just before half-time Dylan Campbell-Coker cleared off the line when Colliery seemed certain to double their lead.

Half-time: 1-0.

The 2nd half again saw Colliery hitting the crossbar and missing several one-on-one opportunities. We almost equilized when the Colliery goalkeeper pulled off a double save from Hosein Khorami and Blake Kassar. Lloyd Pulford also had a free header that went wide as we tried hard to get back into the game.

Colliery always looked dangerous on the break and as spaces appeared and players tired, they again missed more one-on-one opportunities.

We continued to ride our luck when Colliery again hit the crossbar but we could have levelled the score when Jordan Hayward crossed but nobody could get a decisive touch.

Full-time: 1-0.

In summing up this game:

Colliery deserved their win and on another day could have beaten us convincingly. However the fact is we were still in this game until the referee blew the final whistle. We had opportunities to score but not as clear-cut as the Colliery chances.

Once again I cannot fault the work rate and effort of the lads who played today. They once again gave me everything they had; losing games of football is never easy to take but I have no complaints.

On to the next game..."
